About Vltava River

The Vltava River runs through Prague, dividing the Old Town and New Town from the Lesser Town and Prague Castle. It was an essential source of water for early settlements and aided in transportation of goods as part of the trade route between Northern and Southern Europe. Today, Charles Bridge crosses the river at the city center and is a popular viewpoint for visitors. Take a river cruise or dine at Prague’s many riverside restaurants. Outside the city, the Czech Republic’s longest river flows through the countryside for a distance of 267 miles.
