About Springdale

The town of Springdale, Utah, is located outside the boundaries of the Zion National Park. The town was originally incorporated as a Mormon farming community in 1862. The town has a rich history of agricultural development, especially with the opening of the Zion National Park, which was originally the Mukuntuweap National Monument, and was dedicated and opened in 1920.

Utah's first national park that was established in 1919 contains a wide variety of canyons, mountains, cliffs, rivers, lakes, natural arches, buttes, mesas, forests, deserts, wildlife and parts of the Grand Staircase in its 229 square miles. Zion National Park that was originally home to the Anasazi Native Americans nearly 12,000 years ago and many artifacts of ancient life have been discovered there. Park highlights are Zion Canyon, Temples and Towers of the Virgin, Horse Ranch Mountain, Angel's Landing Trail and The Subway. It has seven trails, three campground areas, more than 1,000 plant species, 207 bird species and 67 different mammal species.
