The widest set of steps in Europe called Scalinata di Spagna in Italian are a picturesque spot surrounded by Roman Baroque structures and accented with fragrant azaleas growing in the warmer months. The Spanish Steps were built between 1723-25 following the design of architects Alessandro Specchi and Francesco de Sanctis. The 135 steps connect Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinità dei Monti.
