The well-known 18-foot bronze statue dedicated to the legendary Hawaiian warrior and peacemaker King Kamehameha I is located at the Aliiolani Hale near Iolani Palace in Downtown Honolulu. King Kamehameha, who was Hawaii's first king, unified the islands and is celebrated annually on June 11 when his statue sculpted by Thomas Gould is decorated with flowers. The original statue completed in 1883 was briefly lost at sea and a second one was created by Gould the same year and erected in Oahu. The first statue was found and placed in King Kamehameha's birthplace Kapaau on The Big Island. Other replica statues exist in Hilo on The Big Island, Maui's Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, Las Vegas' Hawaiian Marketplace and Washington, D.C.'s Emancipation Hall. The Oahu statue is show in both the original television series "Hawaii Five-O" and the remake.
