About Glen Canyon Dam

This concrete Northern Arizona dam was built in 1966 on the Colorado River and is responsible for creating the beautiful Lake Powell. Glen Canyon Dam located near Page is named for the prismatic Glen Canyon and was constructed for hydroelectric power and flood control. It is part of the popular vacation spot of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area attracting nearly two million visitors per year. The arch dam is 1,560 feet long and 710 feet tall retaining 27 million acre-feet of water.

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is the meander of the Colorado River, located near the town of Page, Arizona, named after its Horseshoe shape. It is located in the Glen Canyon Recreational Area, 5 miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Many come to see the Horseshoe Bend and overlook 42,000 feet on the Bend via the steep cliff above the meander.
