About Doge's Palace

The Venetian Gothic-style structure translated Palazzo Ducale in Italian is located within St. Mark's Square and has featured a museum since 1923. Doge's Palace used to be the home of Venice's doge as well as contain other government offices and the current building dates back to 1340 though it has been damaged by fire and renovated many times. The well-known Bridge of Sighs is connected to the Doge's Palace to take prisoners from the magistrate offices to a building that was planned to have the new prison cells. Doge's Palace museum presents many exhibits on Venice history and art and offers tours of the building's historic rooms.
