The town of Dawson City, located in Yukon, Canada draws more than 60,000 visitors annually. The town was founded in 1897 and was named after George M. Dawson, a geologist who explored the area previously. Dawson City was incorporated as a town during the 1980s; though the town 's name is Dawson City, it is most commonly referred to as just Dawson. The town is best known for its tourism and gold mining which began in 1896.
