About Colorado State Capitol

This golden-domed state capitol building located in Denver was designed by Elijah E. Myers to resemble the United State Capitol and its stained glass windows portray events in Colorado's history. The Colorado State Capitol opened in 1894 and contains portraits of every U.S. president, chambers for the state Senate and House of Representatives, Mr. Brown's Attic capitol museum and many art pieces. The "Closing of an Era" statue that depicts a Native American standing over a dying bison is in front of the Capitol and was sculpted by Preston Powers for Chicago World's Fair in 1893. The building's grounds contains many memorials dedicated to different causes.
