The largest municipality on Cape Cod is made up of 11 villages including the upscale Hyannis that was a long-time playground for the Kennedys and other rich and famous persons. Barnstable was settled in 1638 and was named after a town in Devon, England. Points of interest are Hyanis, the John F. Kennedy Museum, Gideon Hawley House, Sandy Neck Light, Coast Guard Heritage Museum, Cahoon Museum of American Art, Cape Cod Maritime Museum and The Kennedy Legacy Trail.
