On day 5, our tour guide, Mohamed, a local Egyptian, born and raised in Kom Ombo, who studied tourism in college, passed a rigorous test and has been a guide for more than ten years. He speaks very good English and picked up an American acc..ent from his American clients. He is very knowledgeable, fun and nice. He took us to a local cafeteria and my dad tried Shesha. Today he took us to Edfu temple on horse carriage. In the temple he told us the legend of the feast when Hathour, Horus’s wife comes to see him. Horus stands on the shore waiting the arrival of the boat of Hathour. When he sees it, he takes his own boat out to meet her. After they dock, the priests take the holy boats of Hathour and Horus to the temple. The holy boat is a small boat that they put on a block of granite. Through the fourteen days of feast, the people of the town give their best offerings to the god and goddess. At the end of the celebration, when Hathour is going to leave, the priests bring Hathour’s holy boat to her boat and she sails out waving to Horus and awaiting the next meeting.Read full review
On day four, we visited Philae temple which was dedicated to the goddess Isis. Here goes the story. There was once a god and goddess, Geb and Nut. They were brother and sister. They married and had four children. Isis the goddess of love an..d beauty, Osiris the god of good, Set the god of evil and Nepthtees the goddess of magic. Isis married Osiris, but Set wanted to marry Isis because she was so beautiful, so Set planned to kill Osiris. He called every god and goddess except Isis to a party. He made a sarcophagus and told everyone that the sarcophagus would fit one and only one god or goddess. If the sarcophagus fit, that god or goddess would get the sarcophagus and all the treasures inside it. Every god and goddess tried it but when it was Osiris got in, Set closed the sarcophagus and threw it in the Nile river. Isis looked everywhere for her husband but when she found him, Set imprisones her and cuts Osiris into fourteen pieces and scattered the pieces. Isis then escapes the prison and finds each of the fourteen pieces of Osiris and cries on him. Osiris comes back to life and they have a son, Horus. Horus grows up to avenge his father and kills Set in a great battle. He cuts Set into fourteen pieces, but then drained his blood so he cannot come back to life. IsabelleRead full review
